Wonderful Counselor

A vast majority of everyone reading this, at one time or another, has heard or read the story of Christmas, the story of God sending His son, Jesus, to this earth as a baby to save the world. It can then be very easy, the more we hear it, to graze over the countless bits of information within this story without much thought.

Today and for the remainder of this week, I hope you take the time to really let the birth of your Saviour sink in. Though for now, I'll leave you with one thought that can be easily overlooked and can start you on this journey.

Isaiah says that the child that is born "will be called Wonderful Counselor" (Isaiah 9:6). Why counselor?

Think about this... If God has truly been born in a manger, then we have the only religion that claims this. God Himself didn't descend from Heaven, but He entered the Earth the same way as you and I did. Not only that, but He was born into poverty, not royalty. He experienced everything you and I do. He was faced with petty family drama. He suffered the loss of His own mother to the worst pain and humiliation you can imagine. He was even betrayed by one of his closest friends.

He knows you, and He knows what you're going through. God Himself thought it was worth His while to come to Earth in the form of a human and suffer through all the pains you and I do. He had the infinite greatness of God, and still, He chose to become one of us.

He truly is our Wonderful Counselor.
