The Voice of Gratitude
Thanksgiving, a chance to talk about a subject if added to your daily routine, that will change your life. I pulled a verse out of Deuteronomy that I found incredibly fitting for the season we are in. I wanted to use all of chapter eight, but I also want to be quick and considerate of your time this crazy busy Thanksgiving week! (If you're so inclined, you should definitely give it all a read.)
When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land He has given you. Deuteronomy 8:10
Today, I want to talk about the voice of gratitude. Moses reminds the Israelites where their blessings and provision comes from. He tells them what to do after they receive a blessing. I mean this is elementary level instruction. I picture it sounding something like this today. . . "Okay guys, when you've finished eating and are full, just take a second and praise God. We do this because we have received His blessings."
Notice the word he uses here. . . "praise." He doesn't tell them to just think about what God has done for them and call it a day. He says, "Praise the Lord your God." This requires them to use their voice to show gratitude.
This means you have to talk. . . It'll even seem awkward at first, but push through the awkward!
Have you ever had someone tell you, "You know my heart," explaining why they never say things out loud? Have you ever thought, "Umm, no," after that statement? The Bible has a lot to say about words, and Psalm 107:2 says, "Let the redeemed of the Lord say so."
What do you talk about? The roof over your head? The use of your limbs? Your eyesight? The food in the fridge? Maybe you're walking in a blessing that once was a prayer request, and you have never looked back to voice gratitude. Whatever it may be, say so.
Let's not stop there though. You can make an immeasurable impact on those around you. When you see someone do something great, say so. When you think someone is looking good, say so. When someone makes the best sweet potato casserole that has ever touched your taste buds, say so!
This Thanksgiving, start exercising your voice of gratitude and just say so.
