Break It

"Do not conform to the pattern of this world..." Romans 12:2a

"Don't follow the crowd." "Don't follow the pattern." "Don't fit the mold."

Growing up in church, I heard the word "don't," a lot. "Don't do this and definitely don't do that." But what I've learned is that if you take something away, you have to replace it with something. Here we have Paul telling us "Do not... fit the mold of the world around." (Romans 12:2a LWT*) So what does that mean I need to do instead? Break it! Break the mold. I literally picture holding a plaster mold in my hand, throwing it on the ground, and watching it shatter.

What does this look like practically? There is a natural pattern that we will fall into unless we change our actions and the decision making behind them. This is how Albert Einstein defined insanity :

"Doing something over and over again, expecting the same results."

It is insane to continue doing the same thing over and over again, expecting the same results. We have to change it up! I'm going to do the opposite of what the world shows. I will love where there is hate. I will bring the presence of peace with me into the midst of chaos. It starts with me. I have to change it up. I have to break the mold.
