Training For Tomorrow
Psalm 23 is one of the most famous passages in scripture. It is something that you can go to when you feel downtrodden, when peace seems to lacking, and when life just doesn't seem to be going the way that it should.
A recent favorite of mine is how David opens in verse one. "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want." Not only is this a reminder that our God will provide for us, but he's also implying that God is the only one who knows what you really need. This changes our prayer from, "God give me what I think I need," to "God give me what you know I need."
You see, God is the only one who has been in your tomorrow. He is the only one who knows what you'll need when you get there. What if David prayed away the lion and bear he killed while tending his father's sheep? He wouldn't have been prepared for Goliath!
I want to be in a position that if he knows I have to fight a lion to defeat Goliath, then I want to fight the lion! Instead of God preventing the fight, I want him to provide the faith!
God has been in your tomorrow. He knows what you need and whatever you are fighting is just training for tomorrow.
